CNC Production Machine Operator
Coiler – Set-Up Technician

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of a Coiler – Set-Up Technician include:

  • Set up and operates automatic spring coiling machines to fabricate a variety of steel springs according to specifications
  • Selects cams forming tools, and dies according to part specifications
  • Verifies material specifications with micrometer and calipers
  • Threads material through straighteners, feed rolls, guides and die sections
  • Mounts and aligns required tooling on machine
  • Make all necessary adjustments to produce sample part and compares sample with specifications
  • Readjusts machine as required to achieve and maintain specified product dimensions
  • Submits sample part to Quality Assurance for first article inspection
  • Upon Q.A. approval, starts machine and observes operation by periodically inspecting parts for conformance to specifications
  • Performs and documents as required, all in-process inspections of product
  • Stacks and Identifies containers of finished parts for transfer to next required operation
  • Segregates all non-conforming parts from parts that are known to be good
  • Trouble-shoot and report problems with machines and materials to plant manager


  • This challenging position requires technical & mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate and percent. 
  • Ability to convert metric and English specifications.
  • Ability to convert fractions to decimals.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
